Parkside Residents Sit Down with the 5th Precinct

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, residents of The Villages at Parkside met face-to-face with command staff from the Detroit Police Department’s 5th Precinct. Friends Of Parkside (FOP) organized the conversation after parents raised concerns about how officers have treated their teenagers. Commander Lawrence Purifoy attended, joined by command staff and officers from the 5th Precinct. Thirty-nine people signed in.

Stellantis to Participate in the Dear Santa Helper Project Again

Stellantis employees are returning as partners for this year’s Dear Santa Helper Project, and they hope to adopt more children this year than last. Last December the program reached 68 Parkside children. Letters to a Santa Helper are due November 1, 2026.

Friends of Parkside offers programs and resources to help residents thrive.

  • Friends of Parkside has several initiatives, programs, and events dedicated to helping youth and family within the local community.

  • Friends of Parkside is dedicated to providing several volunteer opportunities as well as helping individuals within the community develop the necessary skills that they need so they can reach their full potential.

  • At Friends of Parkside we have our very own Tech Lab equipped with computers. In this space, we hold several classes to help community members gain the necessary technological skills they need in order to thrive.

  • At Friends of Parkside we promote health and safety within our community and within the larger area. We also host an annual Parkside Health, Safety, and Job Fair.

  • As an organization, we take every opportunity we can to advocate for our community. But, we also equip our community members with the necessary skills that will allow them to advocate and organize for themselves.
